On November 18th, MySpace Secret Shows made a stop in Vancouver at the Media Club, for our third ever Canadian Secret Show with Montreal’s Stars.

As early as noon, MySpacers were already camped outside of the club, eagerly anticipating the evening’s events. The weather for the time of year was incredible, with nary a cloud in the sky, making it an easier wait filled with lots laughter and hot chocolate.

Doors for the show opened up at 6:30pm, and within minutes, the room was already filled to capacity. With no opener scheduled, Stars would be performing an extended set of fan favourites chosen by the fans!

At 7:15pm, Stars took the stage to much applause from the capacity crowd. Armed with their “bag-of-songs,” a paper bag filled with titles of songs from their catalog, they let members of the audience choose each track they would perform. Bassist, Evan Cranley would provide musical interludes ranging from punk to reggae to country as audience members chose the songs. Look for his appearance as a feature release in the “Broken Social Scene Presents” series…or not.

The interaction between vocalists Torquil Campbell and Amy Millan had the audience alternating between dancing to the songs and laughing at their dialogue. In-between, they played a number of selections off their brilliant new album, “In Our Bedroom After The War,” as well as fan favourites, which included Heart, Set Yourself On Fire and Elevator Love Letter, which at times would have the band competing with the audience on volume of vocals.

Torquil Campbell summed it up nicely when he said that Stars have over 30,000 MySpace friends, and the 200 in attendance that evening must’ve been their biggest fans, having lined up for hours prior.

A big thank you to everyone who attended, Stars, Arts & Crafts, The Media Club, The Agency Group and everyone who was involved in making it such a memorable and special evening.
