The God of Secret Shows works in mysterious ways. As thousands of MySpacers know, Mother Nature’s our go-to opening act, almost always getting the crowd jumping with a healthy dose of crazy hot …rain. Seattle seemed destined for a downpour, but England’s cutest export is herself a force of nature, which is why no one but Lily Allen could keep America’s wettest city dry for an exclusive performance just for MySpace members!
Already a UK pop sensation, Lily Allen treated her American fans to a genuinely unique experience. Not only did she choose a MySpace Secret Show for one of just a small handful of US dates, but Allen played in Seattle’s Crocodile Café, an intimate club where MySpacers could enjoy up-close and personal performances of tracks like “Smile” and “LDN;” smash hits back in Britain, where fans have to crowd into sold-out venues just to catch a glimpse of England’s reigning pop princess. Indeed, the love affair between Lily Allen and MySpace goes back to late 2005, when she uploaded to her artist profile songs she’d written with Future Cut. The UK press caught on to her profile’s popularity, and the rest is MySpace history!
In addition to her trademark smile, Lily brought with her to America her entire band --horn section and all!-- and sampled for the MySpace audience a healthy dose of her addictive debut album, Alright, Still. The Capitol Records release lands on US shelves both real and virtual on 1/30/07, but from the sound of it, the Secret Shows crowd already picked up the import version, as they sang along with Lily’s every word in an unforgettably great night for everyone there. So close was Lily to her MySpace fans, if you caught her winking… chances are it was at you!
