This story should sound familiar. It’s about an up-and-coming British group who are huge overseas. They sell out arenas in their homeland and cause pandemonium wherever they go. But they have yet to come to America.

So, after much begging and pleading, they finally book an appearance the US. And, predictably, when they arrive in New York there are throngs of screaming fans there... only some of them are dressed like a giant moon made of shaving cream.

Okay, so maybe this story doesn’t sound exactly like you’d think. But let’s face it, from the Beatles to Oasis, British musicians have often caused manic behavior during their stateside debuts. And while, granted, they are not technically a band, The Might Boosh did exactly that when they made their first US appearance this past Tuesday in New York.

The fans at this very special Secret Show started lining up as early as ten in the morning to catch the comedy duo of Julian Barratt and Noel Fielding do...well, that’s the thing. No one was exactly sure what the two of them were going to do at this gig. Would they recreate some of the skits from their much beloved BBC show? Or would they simply appear in front of the audience and soak up the adulation?

The answer: A little bit of both, actually. Because when Barratt and Fielding took the stage at the Bowery, they spent the first few minutes of the evening simply talking with the audience. When one fan shouted out “I’ve been waiting three years for this,” Baratt responded, “We couldn’t get a flight.”

“We’ve been on standby for two,” Fielding cheekily added.

But they didn’t just go back and forth with those in attendance. They also brought out extended members of The Boosh family, including Fielding’s brother Mike (who reprised his role as Naboo The Enigma) and cast member Rich Fuller who stole the show as Bob Fossil, a grown man wearing pink legwarmers who spent his time onstage trying to teach everyone how to dance.

Yet, the one moment in the night that garnered the most crowd movement, was when Baratt performed “Eels,” a bizarrely loved song from the show that is about eels entering one’s body through...well, you should really just buy the first three season’s of The Mighty Boosh on DVD to find out. Many at this show in attendance probably didn’t need to, which suggests just how fanatical this first US gig for them was.

And, we gotta say, it was amazing to have the guys do it as a MySpace Secret Show. So thanks to them, Frank and Jonny at The Bowery Ballroom, the folks at Adult Swim and all the thousands of fans that lined up. Man, you guys are obsessed.

Also, a big thanks goes out to our sponsor Citi Forward by MySpace for keeping these shows free! Remember, if you want to get VIP treatment at the next show, you gotta sign up for the Citi Forward by MySpace card!
